Life path & birthday numbers
Two numbers do most of the work in numerology. Your life path number is the throughline of who you are; your birthday number is one specific gift you bring. Here is what they mean and how to find yours.
Numerology reads meaning into the numbers that fall out of your birth date. The claim is simple: a handful of core numbers describe the patterns you tend to repeat, the strengths you lean on, and the places you keep getting stuck. It is a frame for understanding yourself, closer to a personality lens than a fortune.
Most of the signal sits in two numbers. Your life path number is built from your full date of birth and reads like the main theme of your life. Your birthday number comes from the day of the month you were born and points to one clear gift inside that theme. Work out both below, then read what each of the nine numbers means.
How to find your numbers
Your life path number
Take your full date of birth. Reduce the month, the day, and the year each to a single digit, then add those three results and reduce once more.
Say you were born on 15 June 1990. June is the 6th month, so that part is 6. The day, 15, becomes 1 plus 5, which is 6. The year 1990 is 1 plus 9 plus 9 plus 0, which is 19, then 1 plus 9 is 10, then 1 plus 0 is 1. Add the three parts, 6 plus 6 plus 1, and you get 13, then 1 plus 3 is 4. That is a life path 4.
Your birthday number
This one is quicker. Take only the day of the month you were born and reduce it to a single digit.
Born on the 15th, your birthday number is 1 plus 5, which is 6. Born on the 7th, it stays 7. Born on the 28th, it is 2 plus 8, which is 10, then 1 plus 0 is 1. The day you arrived carries one specific strength, and this is how you name it.

Common questions
What is numerology?
Numerology reads meaning into the numbers that come from your birth date. The idea is that a few core numbers describe the patterns you tend to live with, the strengths you lean on and the traps you fall into. It is a lens for self-reflection, not a prediction of fixed events. It describes tendencies you can recognize and then steer, rather than a fate you are stuck with.
How do I calculate my numerology numbers?
Your two core numbers both come from your date of birth. The life path number uses your full birth date, reduced to a single digit from 1 to 9. The birthday number is just the day of the month you were born, reduced the same way. Both worked examples are shown above, step by step.
What is the difference between a life path number and a birthday number?
The life path number comes from your whole birth date and describes the broad throughline of who you are and how your life tends to unfold. The birthday number comes only from the day of the month you were born and points to one specific strength you carry. Read together, one gives the pattern and the other gives a single clear gift inside it.
What do the numbers 1 to 9 mean?
Each number carries a recognizable character, from the independent drive of the 1 to the wide compassion of the 9. The overview table above gives a one-line read on each, and every number links to a full page with its strengths, weaknesses, career fit and love style.
Are 11, 22, and 33 master numbers?
Some numerology traditions keep 11, 22, and 33 unreduced and treat them as master numbers with a heightened version of their single-digit root. For the core readings here, every number is reduced to its single-digit base from 1 to 9, so an 11 reads through the 2 it reduces to, and a 22 through the 4. You get the underlying pattern without needing to decide which tradition to follow.
Is numerology real?
Numerology is not a science, and there is no evidence that a birth number can predict specific events. What it does well is give you a simple, memorable frame for looking at your own habits and choices. Treat it as a mirror for reflection rather than a forecast, and it can be genuinely useful without asking you to believe it controls your life.
