Diamond
Heera
Venus's stone of love, beauty and luxury.
Diamond (Heera) is the gemstone of Venus (Shukra). A powerful and valuable stone, it is traditionally linked to love, beauty and luxury, and is considered one of the more intense Navratna.
What is Diamond (Heera)?
Diamond is crystallised carbon and the hardest natural material known, 10 on the Mohs scale. In Vedic astrology a natural, untreated white diamond is used for Venus. Lab-grown diamonds, which are chemically identical, are inscribed "LG" and are not traditionally used as the astrological stone.

How to wear Diamond
Diamond is set in platinum, white gold or silver, cleansed in raw cow's milk and clean water, energised by chanting the Venus beej mantra 108 times, and worn on a Friday. Because it is a powerful stone, it is traditionally trial-tested before permanent wear.
Venus beej mantra
Om Draam Dreem Draum Sah Shukraya Namah
Traditionally chanted 108 times to charge the stone before its first wear.
How to spot a real Diamond
- ·A real diamond clears breath fog almost instantly because it conducts heat well; note that moissanite does too, so this only separates diamond from cubic zirconia.
- ·Viewed through the crown, moissanite shows doubled facet edges while a diamond stays crisp and single.
- ·A laser-inscribed report number on the girdle and a recognised lab report (such as GIA) are the authoritative confirmation; lab-grown stones are inscribed "LG".
Substitutes for Diamond (upratna)
The traditional substitutes (upratna) are white sapphire, white zircon and white topaz. Opal is also commonly worn for Venus in Indian practice.
Who should wear it
Who it suits, and what to watch
Diamond is considered a powerful, intense stone. Aries, Scorpio and Pisces ascendants, and charts with an afflicted Venus, are traditionally advised against it, and several traditions recommend trial-testing before wearing. Wear only on a qualified astrologer's advice.
These are traditional astrological beliefs, not medical, financial or guaranteed outcomes. A gemstone is traditionally read off your whole birth chart, so the right stone for you comes from an actual reading.
