How to spot a real Yellow Sapphire

  • ·At hardness 9 a yellow sapphire scratches glass; the colour is an even golden yellow with no green or brown undertone.
  • ·Under a loupe a natural stone shows fine inclusions; a perfectly clear, water-like stone or one with round bubbles is likely glass or synthetic.
  • ·It stays cool to the touch and does not fade in light; confirm natural origin with a lab report.

Substitutes for Yellow Sapphire (upratna)

The traditional substitutes (upratna) are yellow topaz, citrine (sunela) and yellow beryl (heliodor).

Who should wear it

Who it suits, and what to watch

Generally regarded as one of the most auspicious and benign Navratna stones, but still recommended only after chart analysis, as it can be unhelpful when Jupiter is weak. Wear only on a qualified astrologer's advice.

These are traditional astrological beliefs, not medical, financial or guaranteed outcomes. A gemstone is traditionally read off your whole birth chart, so the right stone for you comes from an actual reading.
